What is the Bully Project: Take Action about? Why am I doing this?
|
Merriam-Webster defines bully as : to frighten, hurt, or threaten (a smaller or weaker person) : to act like a bully toward (someone): to cause (someone) to do something by making threats or insults or by using force
In today's society bullying is the reason behind suicide, depression and fear. Bullying does not only happen at school, although it is the most common. Bullying can take place at work, home or even in the general public. I created The Bully Project: The Action in order to raise awareness against bullying. No one should endure the cruelty from another human being because they choose expressing their true selves rather than following the crowd, being less "cool" than the popular kids, holding a disability, have an appearance different than others, or the level of intelligence one holds. Everyone deserves equal treatment. My objective through this project is seeing which individual (bystander) would stand up against a bully. What exactly am I doing? Through various public locations, I will have a volunteer who I will "bully" in order to gain public access and see who would step up to me. What is the bystander effect? The bystander effect plays a role in cases where individuals would rather stand and watch than help the victim while a number of others are present. The bystander effect is a growing issue among our generation. Instead of going in and helping the victim who is pleading for assistance, some of us choose the situation as a source of entertainment.
